IMPACT OF LIBRARY AESTHETICS ON USERS PATRONAGE IN UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES IN KATSINA STATE - NIGERIA

Abstract

The study investigated the Impact of Library Aesthetics on Users Patronage of University Libraries in Katsina State - Nigeria. The three specific objectives guided the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted in the study. The population of the study is Three Thousand, Two Hundred (3,200) users. The sample size is Three Hundred and Forty One (341)Simple random sampling technique was used in selecting the sample respondents of the study. A questionnaire titled impact of Library Aesthetes on Users' Patronage. Questionnaire was guided the study in data collection. Simple percentage, mean deviation were used for data analysis. The result shows that the use of library aesthetics facilities are ventilation, signage, lightning, art drawing; interior and exterior decoration; library aesthetics inspired users' patronage in of library; and users' perception is library aesthetics  make the library conducive, comfortable and exciting for reading, learning and research purposes. The findings also recommended that library aesthetics should be considered in the design, renovation, refurbishment and redesign of university libraries to plead to the taste of users. High quality and standardized library aesthetics facilities should be used in building university libraries for sustainability and long lifespan use of library by users. Proper measures of maintenance also should be designed in order to make the library aesthetics facilities in good use by users of Katsina University Libraries.
