COUNSELLING IMPLICATIONS AND FACTORS INFLUENCING COMMERCIAL SEX AMONG FEMALE STUDENTS IN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IN EDO STATE

The study examined counseling implications and factors influencing commercial sex among female students in faculty of social sciences in Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma Edo State. This study employed the descriptive research design. Was conducted in Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, Edo State. The convenience sampling technique was used. The population for this study consist all the 3781 female students. The sample size of 362 female students was used in this study. The instrument used for this study is a self- structured questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics with frequency count and percentages. Results from the study revealed that peer pressure influence was a major factor with majority (84.5%), though friends, parental supports influence (80.9%) and poverty (64.1%) The study concluded that peer pressure influence, parental support and poverty influences commercial sex among female students in Faculty of Social Sciences in Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma Edo State. It is therefore recommended that the school management should as a matter of urgency establish and initiate an entrepreneurship skills development programmes to train female students sex worker in various skills acquisition to become self-reliant and independently generating money to provide the essential needs for themselves.
